Wood, ink, paper

Carve, print, paint.

Four steps from a walk in the mountains to a print on your wall.

01

Field journal

Every print starts outdoors. Claire draws from life in a field journal, often over several visits, until the composition and the light are settled.

02

The block

The drawing is transferred to a block of wood and carved by hand with gouges and knives. Everything carved away stays white. Everything left standing prints black.

03

The press

The block is inked and printed on heavyweight Rives BFK cotton paper on a 1984 Takach etching press in her Missoula studio.

04

The brush

Each print belongs to a limited edition, and each one is still unique, because every print is painted by hand with watercolor.
